Sorry about the long legal stuff, but you need to cover yourself these
days! Anyway, on to the fun stuff now.
Introduction
------------
Lan Link-up (Lanlink for short), is a program that will allow you to
more easily synchronize logging into your servers in your AUTOEXEC.BAT.
No more wait for 60 seconds and then try to login and hope it works,
or using the clumsy batch file language to look for ERRORLEVEL codes.
This program is short and simple. You just give it your computer's id
and password on the servers, and then tell it which servers to login to.
If the server is not up, it will wait for it to become active and then
loging. A new "quick login" has been added so that Lanlink will try to
login to all the servers you've specified as soon as it loads, so incase
the servers are already up, you won't have to wait for them to send their
network id, which can take up to 10 or so seconds. This is really handy
when you have a user on-line, and you had to reboot the system and hope
that they won't hang up before it gets back.
Setting it up
-------------
To setup Lanlink, all you need to do is done in three easy steps.
1) Copy LANLINK.EXE and LANLINK.CFG into your LANTASTIC directory.
2) Modify LANLINK.CFG so that it fits your system correctly.
LANLINK.CFG *MUST* be in the same directory as LANLINK.EXE
Here's the format for LANLINK.CFG
Registration Number (0 if unregistered)
Server #1 to login to,User name,User Password,Set time and date
Server #2 to login to,User name,User Password,Set time and date Server #1 to login to,User name,User Password,Set time and date
Server #3 to login to,User name,User Password,Set time and date
Server #4 to login to,User name,User Password,Set time and date Server #1 to login to,User name,User Password,Set time and date
Server #5 to login to,User name,User Password,Set time and date
Server #6 to login to,User name,User Password,Set time and date
Server #7 to login to,User name,User Password,Set time and date
Server #8 to login to,User name,User Password,Set time and date
Server #9 to login to,User name,User Password,Set time and date
Server #10 to login to,User name,User Password,Set time and date
You don't have to specify 10 servers, just specify as many as
you have. Don't leave the unused servers to login to as blank
lines.
An example LANLINK.CFG file is:
0
MainServer,MyAt,Pass,N
SecServer,MyAt,Pass,Y
This would have LANLINK login to MainServer with the account
MyAt and the password for it of Pass. It would not set the time
and date according to the MainServer though. The third line
would log you into SecServer with the account MyAt using the
password Pass and WOULD set the time and date on your computer
according to SecServer's time and date.
3) Modify your AUTOEXEC.BAT so that you call LANLINK.EXE where you
do you logins at. Replace your login in lines with this one line:
LANLINK.EXE
An example AUTOEXEC.BAT would be:
NEW OLD
CD \LANTASTI CD \LANTASTI
LANBIOS LANBIOS
REDIR MyAT REDIR MyAT
LANLINK.EXE NET LOGIN \\MainServer MyAt Pass
NET USE D: \\MainServer\CROOT NET LOGIN \\SecServer MyAt Pass
NET USE E: \\SecServer\TAPE NET USE D: \\MainServer\CROOT
NET USE E: \\SecServer\TAPE
And that's all!
There's only one problem that you might encounter, and that is in your
LANtastic setup. You'll need to make sure that you have your server
set to "Send Server ID", if it's not set that way, then Lan Link-Up
will most likely report the server as being down when it isn't.
Distribution and Registration
-----------------------------
Feel free to copy and use Lan Link-up on your other terminals as well.
Lan Link-Up when registered will allow you to login to more than one
server and will also get rid of the 15 second delay. You can register
your copy of Lan Link-Up and use it through out your home or office
for just $10, it doesn't matter how many copies you use, all you pay
is $10! What a deal!
To register, send $10 (checks made out to Todd Miller) to
PC-Technologies
PO Box 77103
Greensboro, NC 27417-7103
Remeber, if you don't support shareware, then there will be less and
less shareware out there. The registrations encourage the authors to
keep writing more shareware, and better quality. Not registering is
a self-defeating process.
If you need any help, you can reach me on the City2City network in
pretty much any conference, or on my board:

Hope you enjoyed this version! Look for better things to come!
